Release of Exodus of the Xandim

exodusMay 16th saw the release of EXODUS OF THE XANDIM, the second volume of Maggie Furey’s CHRONICLES OF THE XANDIM, the prequels to her much-loved ARTEFACTS OF POWER.

This series deals with the vital events that formed the background to Aurian’s story: the forging of the Artefacts of Power, the Cataclysm that altered the face of the world, and the Mage Wars that would forever change the fortunes of all four races of the Magefolk.

The story is set within the framework of another struggle: the mission of Corisand, the Windeye, or Shaman, of the shapeshifting Xandim, to free her people who have been enslaved by Hellorin, Lord of the Phaerie. The Xandim are imprisoned in their equine forms by magic, and forced to act as mounts for the Phaerie Wild Hunt. As Windeye, Corisand is the only one of her race who still has the ability to think like a human rather than a horse, and so the onus to release them from their bondage rests firmly on her shoulders.

When she is befriended by the blind Wizard Iriana, one of the Six who will finally come to be revered as gods in the Magefolk pantheon, their meeting will precipitate a series of events that will alter the destinies of Xandim, Magefolk and Phaerie alike. With the fates of all the races hanging in the balance, and conflict looming on every side, who will win and who will lose?

In the face of treachery, battle and disaster, the only hope for the future of the world lies in love, loyalty and hope – and on the remarkable friendship between two very different women.

The first volume of CHRONICLES OF THE XANDIM is entitled HERITAGE OF THE XANDIM. Both are published by Gollancz, and are also available as e-books.
